Han Bo

Poet, artist, novelist, playwright, director, travel writer, and curator. Graduated from Fudan University and is an Honorary Writer at the University of Iowa in the United States. He has published several Chinese poetry collections including “Borrowing Deep Heart,” “Temple of Flight,” “Western Sky,” and “Shanghai Wall.” His English poetry collection is “Middle East Railway,” his Russian poetry collection is “The Knot Banquet,“ and his German poetry collection (anthology) is “Chinese Box.” He has also published the novel “Three Rooms and Two Halls” and seven travel literature works including “Walking with Dionysus” and “Graffiti and Icons.” His works have been translated into English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, and other languages.

Han Bo participated in the 2009 International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, the 37th Franco-English Poetry Festival in Paris in 2014, the 16th Berlin International Poetry Festival in Germany in 2015, the 10th International ”Moscow Poets Biennale“ in Russia in 2017, the International Linguistics Conference at Buryat State University in 2018, and the 11th International “Moscow Poets Biennale” in Russia in 2019. Since 2017, supported by the Bosch Foundation and the Berlin Literary Association, he has been residing in Germany conducting research on contemporary painting. In 2018, supported by the Henry Luce Foundation, he resided at the Vermont Studio Center for poets and artists. In 2019, the English version of his poetry collection 'Western Sky' (translated by Catherine Platt) won the 'Asymptote' International Literary Translation Award. In 2022, the New York philosophy journal “philoSOPHIA” published a special study on his poetry collection “Middle East Railway” (translated by David Perry). In 2023, he was an artist-in-residence at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai.
