Liu Jiutong
Liu Jiutong was born in 1977 in Suide, Shanxi. He graduated from the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in 2000 and has been settled in Shanghai since 2004.
Liu has held solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, Venice, Singapore, and other major cities. His works have been exhibited at various international art fairs in Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, and more. The Black & White series was featured in "Contemporary Artists Workshop" and selected for publication in the "Art China - Beijing Olympics Special Edition."
A great number of his works, such as "Inspirations of the Land," "Tower in the Mists," and "May the Moon Watch Over You," have been listed in auctions at Sotheby's, Christie's, China Guardian, and Beijing Poly.
Most of Liu's works are abstract or semi-abstract landscapes. The exquisite fusion of Western painting materials and techniques with Oriental resonance and spirit has created a distinctive personal style. His works are characterized by subtle color changes, free-flowing brush strokes, and expressions that oscillate between smooth and slashing styles. His creative philosophy remains rooted in Chinese sensibility, with traditional Chinese paintings imbued with a philosophy of oneness with nature.
Generations of literati painters have captured the spirit of the grand landscape and expressed their personal feelings via paintings no more than a foot long. It is this passion and exhilaration that draws Liu to follow in their footsteps.
