Zhao Yuya

Zhao Yuya's works, while expressing her delusions, also present the “self.” She does not aim to reach so-called pure spirituality but rather conveys her personal emotional experiences and life trajectory in her paintings, carrying a certain autobiographical nature. Therefore, she uses more concrete images and objects and does not shy away from the aura and symbolic meanings inherent in these images and objects. In terms of subject matter, Zhao Yuya paints delicate, feminized microcosms, yet the overall scenes are macrocosmic and complete. She established this approach as early as during her master's graduation project. She once stated: 'Some works depict small scenes from contemporary society, aiming to express thoughts about society from a microscopic perspective. Using a collage method, I connect the macro and the micro.

Born in Sichuan in 1994, she obtained a master's degree in Chinese ink painting and landscape from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu in 2020. She currently lives and works in Shanghai. Her works have been exhibited in various locations in recent years, including Hawaii in the United States, as well as Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu in China. She was also interviewed by Sichuan Television. In 2023, she held a solo exhibition titled 'Raid' at Lig Art Island in Chengdu and another solo exhibition titled ”Accident“ at Nancy Gallery in Shanghai.

“In the past two years of my creations, I have been trying to construct my own creative thought system, determining the direction of my work even before selecting materials. The word 'life' is my encapsulation and interpretation of the materials I use. Exploring the existence and essence, development, and change of material life is my inquiry and exploration of life within the social environment I am in.”
